Volunteer - Madrid Home Communities


Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Madrid Home Communities volunteers know this well, and often comment on the satisfaction they experience as they share their time and talents with residents.

Volunteer opportunities are available for groups and individuals, at a variety of times, and at ANY of our campuses, with either long or short term commitments.

The following are some examples:

  • Friendly Visitors: Spend time with residents who could use some extra TLC
    • (Reading, putting a puzzle together, playing a card game like Skip Bo or UNO)
  • Gardeners: Pulling weeds, watering, planting flower gardens, maintain and dividing perennials, etc.
  • E-pals: Help residents communicate with family and friends via the internet
  • Pen-pals: Help residents communicate with family and friends via pen
  • Worship assistants: Help residents get to and from the Chapel for services
  • Musicians and performers: Provide enjoyable entertainment
  • Woodworking: Provide small to medium sized wood objects for craft projects
  • Sewing / Quilting / Crochet / Knitting: Provide assistance or bring you and or a small group to have a time of mending and working on your hobby.
  • Manicures: Assistance with filing and painting fingernails of residents in assisted living
  • After Supper and Weekend Small Group Leaders: Lead a small group activity of Trivia, Word Games, Reminisce, Bible / Devotional Studies
  • Special Interest Programs: Share videos or photos and information about places you have traveled, special interests or hobbies you have
  • BINGO Assistants: Especially needed at Ballard Creek and Cedars

Donations for BINGO prizes at all campuses such as:

  • Snack size candy / granola bars / sugar free treats
  • Kleenex / Paper Towels / Toilet Paper
  • Kitchen & Bath Towels / Blankets
  • Small / medium size porcelain figurines and Knickknacks
  • Stuffed animals (big or small)
  • Air fresheners
  • Toiletries (Body Wash, Hand Cream, Body Lotion, Shampoo, Conditioner, Toothpaste, Denture Cleaner Tabs, Toothbrushes)
  • Perfume / Cologne
  • Decorative pots / vases / wall hangings / picture frames
  • Plain t-shirts sizes S / M / L / XL / XXL
  • Stationary / Greeting Cards / Forever Stamps / Ball Point Pens
  • Large Print Crossword, Word Search, Sudoku Books
  • Spring & Fall Bake Sale: Donations of cookies, pies, bars, breads, cakes, cupcakes, and homemade cadies
  • Christmas: Donations (watch for items needed in the Fall Connections Newsletter), Helpers to wrap Christmas donations, and Carolers
  • Outings & Trips: Assist with residents on outings to High Trestle Trail, shopping trips, and small walks outdoors on campus when the weather is nice
  • Behind the Scenes: Stuffing marketing folders / Seasonal Decorating
  • Pet Visits: Furry friends always make a former pet lovers day
