What's Happening at Madrid Home Communities:

Madrid Home Communities Donates to Wheels for the World

The Madrid Home Communities recently donated old wheelchairs and wheelchair parts to Joni and Friends Wheels for the World group.

Wheels for the World collects wheelchairs and wheelchair parts and restores them to like new condition through prison based restoration centers around the United States. The wheelchairs are then sent to those that could greatly benefit from a new chair but don’t have the resources to get one.

Service of Remembrance

Sunday, November 6th, is the Madrid Home’s annual Service of Remembrance. Madrid Home residents and the families of those who have died at the Madrid Home in the past year (November 1, 2015 – October 31, 2016) will be invited to come as we remember their loved ones. A candle is lit as each name is read and the families receive a cross in remembrance. It’s a very special service as we call to mind those who have gone before.

Friends Fall Bazaar and Bake Sale at the Madrid Home

Shop for Thanksgiving treats, start your Christmas shopping, and visit with friends!

November 20, 2016 - 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Donations of baked goods are needed and can be brought to the Madrid Home Reception Desk by noon the day of the event. Hand crafted items are also needed and can be brought any time.

Christmas Gift Wish List

No Madrid Home resident ever goes without presents at Christmas time, thanks to the loving and enthusiastic generosity off MHC friends. It’s hard to know who enjoys this gift-giving tradition more, residents who receive the presents or staff who choose just the right gift for each one. Then again, it could be those who shop and donate items, or the volunteer gift wrappers. In any event it is a meaningful and joyful part of the holidays for many.

These are the items we need to keep the tradition going:

Socks • Underwear • Bras Kleenex• Candy/Chocolate • Toiletries Jewelry • Watches • Nail Polish Puzzles • Pajamas • Robes Men’s and Women’s Clothes (mostly Lg and XL) but a few other sizes as well. Grippy socks • Belts • Hair pretties Personal Snacks • Fleece or Velour Jackets (snap or zip)

Items We DON’T Need This Year - Blankets • Lotion • Deodorant • Combs and Mirrors

Please bring donations to the Madrid Home by the day of the Bazaar and Bake Sale on Sunday, November 20. This gives us time to sort donations and begin gift selection the first week in December. For those of you who like to shop for bargains at the after-Christmas sales, we also appreciate donations of wrapping paper and gift bags to use the following year.

Gift Wrappers Needed

December 12 - 16 (or until all gifts are wrapped) 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Gift wrapping will take place the week of December 12th until all gifts are wrapped. General hours to work are from 8 am – 4 pm. Individuals/groups can call Tanae Hollar at 515-795-3007 to schedule a time – arrangements for evening time slots can be made.
