Madrid Home Communities received a grant award from the Alma Pedretti Charitable Foundation in the amount of $7000.00.
The money will be used to creat a new exit, patio, and paved access to the walking trail from the Garden Court Apartments community room.
Alma and her husband Joe were apart of the Madrid Home family for many years and the Madrid Home is deeply appreciative of their support.
The Madrid Home wins MAC's (Madrid Action Committee) "lighted parade contest" and donates the money to Greater Love.
Pastor Carla Werre is MAC's (Madrid Action Committee) Leader of the Year!

A Computer for Peterson Lobby
A long-term goal was realized when a computer was installed in the Peterson Lobby. Generous gifts from Carolyn Guigli and family enabled this to happen. Most of the money came from memorials for Carolyn’s husband, Bill.
Bill was a genial man who loved people and enjoyed being with family. Carolyn came to the Madrid Home everyday to help him with meals, wheel him around the Home and grounds and just be with him. The computer and large flat screen TV seem a fitting gift because they are accessible for residents and families. They can play games together like chess, solitaire, hangman, etc. No internet service has been connected yet, but once it is, residents will be able to surf the web and use e-mail. If they need assistance the receptionist or other staff are there to help.
Thank you, Guigli family, for sharing Bill with us and for the gift of togetherness!

From the Ingram Family:
Dear Carla and all the staff at the Madrid Home--
Thank you for the lovely memorial certifi cate, the huge “signature
card” and nice letter!! Mel was so blessed to have such caring people
with him for his last 13 months on earth, and we could not have
asked for more loving care!!! God really directed us there, I’m sure,
because he closed the doors on other options. We love you and you
will always have our respect!! - Frieda Ingram and family
Keith-
Once again, I want to thank you and the staff of the Madrid Home for your excellent care for my Dad.
As he passed on a couple of months ago, and I was most impressed with how your people helped him and my
family with so many of the “end of life” details.
Such things as the transition to title 19, his declining capabilities, rehab, cooperation with the family’s wishes, etc. were all handled with excellence.
I was, again, impressed with your staff’s caring and Thanks for Great Care for My Dad conduct during my Dad’s final hours.
For example, the staff put together a book of “remembrances” of Mel Ingram.
The excellence of Madrid home’s staff exhibits itself in hundreds of small ways, such as this.
The people that work at Madrid home are clearly working for more than a paycheck - they care about the quality of life for the residents.
This was particularly helpful during the end-of-life phase when our family was tired and worn out from the long ordeal.
I consult for large and very large businesses, and I have seen very few where the mission of the organization is so clearly understood and acted on through all levels of the organization.
I am sure you hear about problems and mistakes (we all have them), but I wanted to take a moment to congratulate you and your staff – and to focus on the positives for a moment.
I congratulate you, the board of directors, your supporting churches, the leadership and staff of Madrid Home on a job well done.
I regret that life is such that there is only a limited amount of business I can send your way! (But we will recommend Madrid home to other families whenever possible.)
Thanks and Blessings,
Tom Ingram and the entire Ingram family.
Meal Schedule at the Madrid Home
For more than a year the Choices Our Way (COW) committee has been meeting to study how residents’ needs can be best met. The move from an institutional/medical model to a social model is an important facet of culture change for the Madrid Home. A social model is based on relationships and knowing the residents well. The residents become part of a neighborhood with all of the benefits, social, psychological, emotional, that go along with belonging.
The first move in the MH culture change was to offer 24 hour breakfast items for residents (see below). The second step took place when the MH went to a five-meal-a-day plan. The dining plan is:
7 a.m.-9 a.m. Continental breakfast served in residents’ rooms if they’re awake. This might include coffee, juices, milk, sweet rolls and Danish, yogurts, fruits.
10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Brunch served in the main dining areas. Sample items include beverages, hot and cold cereals, fresh fruit, eggs, waffles, pancakes, breakfast meats, a hearty soup and/or casserole.
1:30 p.m. Afternoon snack may be connected with an activity and will be served wherever the resident is located. This could be ice cream, popcorn, other high calorie desserts, chips along with a beverage.
4 p.m.-5 p.m. Dinner served in the main dining areas. This is the main meal of the day, equivalent to the previous noon meal. There will be choice of entrée and vegetable, a salad, bread and dessert.
7:00 p.m. Evening snack will be served to all residents in their neighborhoods. Sample items include a meat or cheese sandwich and beverage.
24 Hour Food Choices available at the food carts on each floor, just tell a staff member what you would like.
Pancakes/syrup, Bacon, Sausage, Doughnuts/pastries, Cheese slices (for cold or grilled sandwiches), Crackers, Eggs (which may be served fried, scrambled or in sandwiches) Yogurt, Oranges/apples, Oatmeal, Cold cereal, Peanut butter, Jelly, Bread/margarine, Graham crackers, Cookies and Beverages: coffee, tea, milk, hot cocoa, juices
