Yesterday and Today

September 13, 1906, Sister Kristin Monson opened"Iowa Lutheran Home for the Aged" or what was commonly referred to as the "Old Peoples Home" of Madrid, Ia. Temporarily housed in rented quarters, the Home could only accomodate a few guests.

In May, 1908, ground was broken for a 100' x 32' facility that could provide care for 28 persons.

Since then, Iowa Lutheran Home has gone through many transitions, including a fire that destroyed the Home in January 1948, forcing residents and staff to relocate to Camp Dodge. In November of that same year, ground was broken for a new facility.

Reorganization in the '70's changed a strictly Lutheran Home to an ecumenical organization with support from 26 area churches. This monumental step has allowed us to open the door to greater numbers of individuals who depend on our care.Today
