Sanborn Chapel

The Chapel Windows

A little girl once visited a rather ornate cathedral. Inside the large church she saw beautiful stained glass windows and was told that the people pictured in those windows were Saints. Being impressed, she remembered this when she later was asked a question in Sunday School: "What is a Saint?" Her reply,"I know...Saints are people through whom the light shines."
This is the goal for all people in whom Christ resides....to be one through whom the Light shines.
The beauty and symbolism of the stained glass windows can be seen in the Sanborn Chapel. They help inspire those who worship here, allowing them to lift their thoughts to the Source of light and life. The Sanborn Memorial Chapel was dedicated on June 10, 1962. It was named in remembrance of the untiring work of Superintendent Gust Sanborn and in grateful appreciation for the devoted labors of his wife, Martha, Matron of the Madrid Home.

Madrid Home Communities reorganized the the 70's to become a ecumenical organization with support from 26 area churches. This monumental step has allowed us to open the door to greater numbers of individuals who depend on our care.

The photo is a panel of a window behind the altar.
There are 10 windows 14'x30" and two 57"x35"(one of which had to be relocated per fire marshal so part of it is in the skilled lobby and part on the back wall of the chapel.)Two smaller windows were also removed when the balcony was repurposed: one is in the main lobby over the piano and the other in the apartment social room.
